Hottest July in history: GFC’s volunteers plant trees to beat the heat
In July 2023, a new record was set for the hottest month in the history of the Earth, with the global average temperature reaching 17.08° C.
On July 1st and 16th, a total of 30 volunteers from four service stations of our company in Taipei, led by the chairman, participated in a tree-planting activity organized by GFC Foundation and assisted by the "Chilin Foundation" on several hectares of land within Yangmingshan National Park. The areas included the left slope of Chungshan Hall, the former site of Yangming Hospital in front of Qianshan Park, and the northeast forest of Ger-Jyh Senior High School. Together, they cleared approximately one hectare of tall weeds.
On July 29th, the volunteers gathered again, this time with a total of 46 people including their families, to plant 15 young camphor tree seedlings near Ger-Jyh School. Throughout the process, families worked together to dig soil, plant trees, water, and protect the seedlings, creating a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere. Afterwards, everyone moved to Qianshan Park and had a picnic by a water pond with the beautiful backdrop of the Twin Peaks of Qixing. The ancient trees and wooden structures provided a serene setting for the gathering. Families enjoyed their time together, and with a heavy heart, they concluded their tree-planting goal for the month of July.
