GFC donates medical equipment to Taipei Veterans General Hospital
Chairman Mr. Charles Tang of GFC admires the pediatric surgical team at Taipei Veterans General Hospital North Branch. In a time when the birth rate in Taiwan is declining, the team has selflessly devoted itself to saving countless children. In response to the call of Professor Tsai Hsinlin, Chief Surgeon, GFC donated medical equipment worth NT$2.25 million to the hospital. The donation includes a Japanese-imported "Fine Fiber Nasopharyngoscope" and a new "Medical Diode Laser Device." These devices are expected to assist in providing comprehensive and precise diagnosis and treatment for critically ill children, aiding in their recovery and improving the survival rate of infants with diseases.
One of the advanced devices, the "Medical Diode Laser Device," is helpful in treating conditions such as soft throat, tracheal stenosis, or bronchial obstruction caused by polyps, effectively reducing the physical burden on patients and improving treatment efficiency. The "Fine Fiber Nasopharyngoscope" can be used to examine the upper and lower respiratory tracts, as well as the trachea, in infants weighing less than 1 kilogram, significantly benefiting the accurate diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the nasal, pharyngeal, and throat areas. In the past three years, over 130,000 newborns have been born in Taiwan, and some of them may require respiratory and tracheal examinations.
Since its establishment, the Pediatric Surgery Department at VGH has trained numerous outstanding medical professionals. In recent years, they set the record for the youngest living liver transplant across Taiwan and Vietnam and successfully completed the domestic record for the smallest living organ donation, transplanting two kidneys into two children with the lowest body weight.
